Requested Review: www.Hulu.com

In a word: All-American

In 202 words:

First impression is good, nice clean display, seemingly easy navigation and easy to read text.

I just want to state I am English, and to me it would appear that Hulu.com is only for American TV. So therefore it's marked down slightly as i don't really know of many American series apart from Diagnosis murder and Friends.

The search bar is well organized, meaning you wont get hot girls xxx if you search in Shaun of the dead.

You must have an Account to watch videos, TV or Movie, which I’m not obliged to make as I have the Nazi IP, Virgin. But I must to review it so…

Creating an account: this is the most hilarious account creation ever, you can select birth date from as far as 1870. Aside from the date of birth the account creation is practicly the same as every other website apart from that you need an American zip code which I’m not I’m position of... so no videos for me.

Well looks like I’m limited on this one, so ill stick with it's a very pretty site and i'm sure the videos are high quality.

It slightly reminds me of a greyer Veoh.com

To sum it up: I think I would have a lot more fun, should it go global.

  1. E_M_Y, I really enjoyed your review! You brought up some excellent points, which I'd like to bring to Hulu.com's attention. I hope you don't mind, but here's my 2 cents worth:

I have an account and you're right, of course...the selection is pretty Americana. Totally forgot about the zip code issue...Hulu says it's needed to provide a more detailed picture--something like that. Are you sure you can't just put in any old zip and you might still be able to watch something? Just throwing that out there in an off chance. We do have plenty of great shows...like Hell's Kitchen. Yes, I'm a Chef Ramsey fan.

I don't believe you need an account...I watch shows without even signing in...been wondering why I even had to sign up in the first place.

You didn't mention the inserted quickie adverts, most noticeable during 45 minute shows--about 4, 20 - 30 second long ads per show.

It is so much fun to watch old American shows from my youth (gag), like White Shadow, Ironside and Miami Vice. And there's Christopher Walken outtakes on Saturday Night Live.

I really, really would like to see a British version of Hulu.com. I LOVE British movies and shows--would probably spend more time in that version than the U.S. one. I was thoroughly disappointed because I was hoping to find some early shows of EastEnders, my ultra favorite Soap. E_M_Y, if you know of an excellent site that Americans desperate for British culture can go to and watch films from your region PLEASE let me know ASAP! I'm really begging here (smiling)!

RE Hulu.com videos: The picture quality on MY monitor is smooth but a wee bit blurry. However, I need new glasses, so take this part of my comment lightly. I have learned not to sit close to the screen when I'm watching their shows at full screen. For a few viewings, I was put off by the darkness of the films, then I realized all I had to do was adjust my monitor's brightness and contrast. Duh! So now that issue is resolved.

Hulu.com's site really drains the computer's memory banks--so if you only have a mere 512 RAM...good luck...I got around it quite nicely by adjusting my RAM PRO and allowing it to slowly free up system RAM, so now I have NO problems with watching Hulu for hours...Hardly any annoying video freezes as RAM PRO goes to work (can't say the same for Windows' Media Player, though)! Oh, also, I noticed that the Google Toolbar was sucking up a lot of RAM, as well. So, I removed that blood-sucking add-on and that has also helped considerably, RAM-wise.

Thank you for taking up the request. If anyone else has some info RE Hulu.com...I'd certainly like to read about it on this review site. Bye, E_M_Y!

    P.S.
The '1870' year comment was hilarious...I didn't notice that! I usually lie about that...It would be fun choosing that one. Are there any 139 year olds in existence, I wonder? In Tibet, perhaps? Africa, maybe....Penny
